  • Aug 18, 2020
Zack Smith an Iowa farmer joined me to discuss his new production model called "stock cropping." We talk about the "ClusterCluck 5000" the implement he and his partner have invented to stock crop the fields they manage. This is an exciting piece of equipment they are seeking to scale up and bring to market. This practice has massive potential to change the ecological and financial landscape of farming.

ASOM - Ep 47 - Caroline Sicht - What County Fairs Mean to Us

  • Aug 16, 2020
County Fairs are a staple in the culture of many rural communities. Along with so many other events, these fairs look so much different due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Today, friend of the show Caroline Sicht (operator of The Farm Story website and podcast) joins us to speak about the impact county fairs have on our communities. We share a bit about the stress that we, and others in our same shoes, experienced in the lead up to the county fairs. We then share our own stories from the fair to show how they ended up a success. Caroline works so hard to make our Ag youth a priority and we are so proud to have her on the show to help her showcase that. Find Caroline's first episode with us on Episode 23. Episode 049 - From Reactive to Proactive: Starting the conversation about the dangers of remaining neutral in agriculture

  • Aug 13, 2020
When the same old techniques aren’t working, do you keep doing what you’re doing (Einstein’s definition of insanity) or do you start considering the problem from different perspectives? Over many conversations the last several weeks, Valene and Katharine have been discussing how agriculture taking a neutral stance against outside pressures is having an adverse effect on the viability and sustainability of our industry. Ag is losing its voice at every turn and one of the biggest reasons why is because we are silencing ourselves for fear of retribution. As the next generation of agriculturists (us) begin to step to the forefront and into the spotlight of our industry in the form of boards, organizations, and leaders, it is becoming increasingly apparent that the silence of the previous generations that worked through problems in the back room, is no longer making the progress that our industry exceedingly demands, whether that’s comfortable or not. We are Millennial Ag, and we are standing for what we believe.
